The house shares part of the ancient Monastic site of the early Christian saint, MALKEDAR. Nestling into the shelter of MOUNT BRANDON, at the beginning of the PILGRIM'S WAY, it has breathtaking views over SMERWICK BAY and beyond to FERRITERS' COVE and the BLASKET ISLAND known as THE DEAD MAN, or THE SLEEPING GIANT. You can walk from the house and up the mountain behind
it on a path that pilgrims have walked for hundreds of years. The higher
you get, the better the views, from the top of the highest mountain in
Ireland you can look out over the whole of the BLASKET ISLAND group. Or
you can take the costal walk along the cliffs and look down on the nesting
sea birds. |

Next to the house is a field in which our neighbour keeps his donkeys. They like carrots and bread, if you have any to spare from the delicious local produce.

It's only one mile to long, safe, sandy beaches at SMERWICK; and five minutes to the charming town of DINGLE, with its many good pubs, restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, library, cinema and TRADITIONAL MUSIC venues, as well as its celebrated resident dolphin FUNGIE.
